Gas Sweetening Unit (Amine Unit)
This unit is among the essential components of the Khormala oil project, as KAR Company constructed the first station for collecting and sweetening natural gas accompanied with the extraction of crude oil in the Khormala oil field.
This project is considered as the first project of its type in the Kurdistan Region, and it is one of the clean sustainable development projects.
The main purpose behind implementing this project is to getting benefit from the gas accompanying the extraction of oil in the Khormala oil field through collecting and sweetening it so it can be utilized as clean and low-cost fuel for operating the electrical turbines in the Khormala power station. Another benefit of this unit is decreasing the harmful carbon dioxide emissions that occur while burning.

KAR Company has taken all necessary procedures to register the Project under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “UNFCCC”, and the preliminary registration has already been confirmed.
The station is located 1.5 km south of the CPS station, and it was constructed on an area of 30,000 m2. The Station treats the gas produced from the separation process performed on the oil coming from CPS station through sweetening the gas in the first stage, and later dehydrating it in order for it to be utilized as fuel for operating the turbine engines in the Khormala power station. The local gas is then compressed from the Station to the Khormala Power Station through a pipeline (1 km, diameter = 24 inch).
